The Plaza in Stockport has just undergone a complete refurbishment, including the replacement of all 1317 chairs by Kirwin & Simpson. The Art Deco styling would need careful research and some creativity to source the right materials and replicate the seat styles, but K&S were the obvious choice with their unbeatable track record of auditorium restoration.
Actually, it was more restoration than reburbishment, and a key element was restoring the entire auditorium seating to its former glory, with exact replicas of the original seating installed when the Plaza first opened its doors on October 17th 1932.
The Plaza is a fine example of 1930s Art Deco architecture and interiors, and the auditorium is part of only the first phase of restoring the entire building. The project is an ongoing work in progress and we wish the theatre well in its future money raising efforts.
